Cindy GoodwinGrowing up, Cindy Goodwin moved around often with her four siblings and widowed mother, so her education was “inconsistent.”

When she arrived at The Evergreen State College, Cindy felt fortunate to have the opportunity to pursue a college degree that played upon her strengths and built upon her passions with subjects like languages, literature, and political economy.

After graduating in 1980, Cindy began what would become a meaningful career making a difference in the communities of Southwest King County and the City of Mercer Island, where she served for many years as the city’s director of youth and family services.

Throughout her career, Cindy approached life through a lens she discovered at Evergreen.

“The college was inclusive; it was whole, and it let me build on what I had but also acknowledge my challenges,” she says. “Evergreen was my foundation. It’s what allowed me to think and gave me the idea that I can do this, too. That’s why I give back.”

Cindy, who is also a proud parent of an Evergreen graduate, gives monthly and designated a gift to the College through her estate, which will ultimately go “wherever it is needed most.”

“I want Evergreen to be here [forever],” Cindy says. “I want to make sure other kids like me can be here.”
